Frequently asked questions about the Great Gator 5K
Race Date: April 22nd, 2017
Kids Fun Run: 8:30 am
5K: 9:30 am
Is this a school fundraiser?
Yes, the race is funded by sponsor donations and runner entry fees. All profits will go directly toward the purchase of technology that will be used in classroom learning. Many studies have shown the benefits for students who get hands-on learning using these devices, as well as other classroom aids like large touch screens and projectors. Our school is in need of updating our technology and it’s not something that the county can always provide. We were able to purchase some great technology for our school using the proceeds from our last race but we can use more. By fundraising within our community, we can bridge this gap and help our students “Race into the Future!”
How do I register?
Registration is online through Runsignup.com. We will also have late race day registration as long as we still have room available. It should be noted that runners who register on the day of the race will not be guaranteed a race t-shirt. They will also be running in the last starting wave, regardless of their running pace.
Can I run/walk with my stroller?
Yes, strollers are allowed in the 5K.
Can my child run/walk the 5K?
Children from age 5 and up are welcome and encouraged to participate. (Younger children in strollers do not need to pay an entry fee.) Parents will need to supervise their children on the course, since there will not be chaperons on every part of the course. The trails do cross roads, and police will be present to direct traffic. But it’s recommended that an adult accompany any younger children. Don’t forget we also have the kids fun run and obstacle course for any children that are rising into Kindergarten to Fifth Grade.
Where can I park? We will have parking at the school of course, but it will fill up at some point. Over flow parking will be at the St. Ledger’s pool parking lot located on Sandyridge Parkway.
When can I pick up my race packet? At our school the day before the race, Friday April 24th from 3:30 pm – 7:00 pm. If you like, you may have a friend pick up your packet(s) for you.
Can I bring my dog?
In consideration of the safety of all participants, no animals, skateboards, bikes, scooters or skates will be allowed in the official race area.
Do I have to have a student at Swift Creek Elementary to participate?
Absolutely not. The Great Gator 5K is a community-wide event. We welcome everyone!
How can I help?
We are still looking for volunteers to help out with the race. Please see our volunteer signup sheet to find out more. Also, we may still have some sponsor space available- sponsorship allows you to get prime advertising at the race, as well as opportunity to have a booth set up at the race. See our sponsorship page for more details.
What does my 5K entry fee include?
All 5K runners will get a Great Gator 5K t-shirt, a Gator Medal, and a swag bag filled with various freebies from our sponsors. Kids Fun Run participants also receive a t-shirt. Please note that runners who register on race day will most likely NOT get a shirt.
Can my child do the Kid’s Fun Run AND the 5K?
Yes! We had many choose this option last year. There is a separate choice in the registration process to sign up for both at one time. This is for children up to 12 years old and they will get the full swag bag and the 5K shirt and medal. Children 13 and up are not able to do the Fun Run and need to choose the 5K Adult option.
Can I create a team with my family/friends?
We don’t have team registration options available. Registration is on an individual basis. We do have a “5K Family of 4” option which gives families a price break on purchasing four 5k entry fees, but that is only to reduce costs and is not a team signup. Please use this option only for family members. Note: The Family of 4 pricing begins after the early bird pricing is over which is March 2nd. It’s cheaper to do early bird pricing for each person if that is still available.
